As a part of its Public Humanities Initiative, the Humanities Research Center at Rice University partners with Houston institutions to create engaged learning courses for undergraduate students in the areas of medical humanities and cultural heritage. Students work 5-10 hours/week on site with archivists, center directors, and practitioners to develop projects in specific research areas. Overseen by Rice faculty, students apply their humanistic training to real-world problems and put their critical thinking to use as they learn new practical skills. HRC practica are credit-bearing and culminate in an end-of-semester symposium in which students present their research to the public.

The HRC offers practica courses in the Fall, and Spring semesters, and in special cases, during the summer term. To apply for the 2017 practica, or with any other questions, please contact John Mulligan.
