The Humanities Research Center at Rice University, as a part of its public humanities initiative, partners with university departments and Houston institutions to create practice-based courses for undergraduate students in the areas of medical humanities and cultural heritage. Qualified students work 5-10 hours/week on site with archivists, center directors, and practitioners to develop projects in specific research areas. Overseen by Rice faculty, students learn to apply their humanistic training to real-world problems and to put their critical thinking to use as they learn new practical skills. HRC practica are credit-bearing, evaluated by Rice faculty, and culminate in an end-of-semester symposium in which students present their research to the public.

The HRC is now accepting applications for Fall 2017 practica. Explore the offerings on this site, and apply online. Please contact John Mulligan at the HRC with any questions.
